Cafés and the Sun

And Other Things I Love

I love cafés. 9/10 times I leave my house I end up spending $12 on coffee and a little snack. The magic of these spaces permeates the floorboards, the seats, the paintings. If I could, I would spend my days sitting in cafés watching as the sunlight dips just out sight.

Whenever I am covered by sunlight, it fills my body with its radiance. The rays transform my body into pure light and I absorb the UV rays until I remember that it’s bad to do that. And then I keep sitting there until a cloud takes away my joy. But then I remember that my bedroom will be golden in the morning and I’m excited to do it all again.

Kindles are fire. As someone who owns a lot of physical books I am allowed to say this. I love my Kindle. It’s the best thing ever. Having an e-reader full of random books I found online just… does something. Certainly it enables my inner-goblin’s desire to collect every shiny thing I find, but sometimes I read what’s on there! And they are like ten times better because I ddon’t feel bad about spending $35 on a hardback!

I really love art exhibits. Whether it’s in museums or it’s a show that a local artist put together in a city square. I think it’s so cool and fun. I especially love Dalí amongst all the artists out there. His weirdness and defiance mixed with pure talent genuinely pushed humanity forward by decades.

Bill Withers’ song Can We Pretend is probably my favourite song of the year. His long and drawn out singing about mixed feelings combined with a fun guitar picking pattern brings me back again and again. I think I listen to it every time I open Spotify.
